In this information age, computer is an important tool to process and store information. At the same time, the information security is drawing more and more attention. However, as an external storage device, the harddisk driver is always being used to store huge amount of information such as the personal confidential information, commercial secerts and national confidential information. Once the harddisk driver is stolen, it will result in a series of big problems.The harddisk encryption card based on FPGA , which can encrypt the data transmitted on the IDE bus, is a physical-layer device used to protect the data stored in harddisks.On the base of the study about the working principle,the protocol,the timing of IDE interface harddisk,the data storage and transfer mechanism for harddisk, this paper proses the design of data encryption based on NIOS in the SOPC system. The main study and tasks are as follow:(1) Design of harddisk encryption card which is based on NIOS embedded system is posed.(2) The hardware plat-form along with the debugging-test environment is build up and the main functions of the modules are explained;(3)The IDE bus interface is designed with the Ultra DMA and PIO transmission mode.(4) A key management, a kind of substitute cryptogram arithmetic and an encrypting mode of the system are described.(5)The initial design and study of SATA interface are given.
