With the high-speed development of interconnection technology, global information increased with geometric series, people search for a large amount of information, data in order to serve studying and work on Internet, use large capacity data times of file more and more frequent, file can not holded by a small floppy disk. In addition, rhythm of life accelerated, working efficiency raised, consumers put forward high request of memory's moving. The portable memory based on USB interface arises at the historic moment. At present, most USB interface equipments store and transmit data in plaintext form, unavoidable potential safety menace has been brought. With the constant development of science and technology, in order to guarantee the security of important information, we need to upgrade the safe technology related to safe problem. Cryptography is the foundation of supporting authentication, integrality and confidentiality. So it is necessary to adopt one encrypt intensity high algorithm encrypt some important data, in order to prevent that legal users operate over authority, illegal user attack viciously. This article brings forward an application of a new encryption algorithm in encrypted USB partable harddisk that aim at the insecure factors.In this paper we firstly discuss the general concepts of applied cryptography, and then introduce the mostly used modern encryption methods and technologies. We analyze the advantages and disadvantages of symmetric algorithm and public-key algorithm., bring forward a new block algorithm — permutation code. Permutation code broke through the traditional concept of block algorithm, and improved the encrypt intensity greatly. Secondly we disscuss the System structure, protocol standard of USB and IDE interface, and then introduce USB large capacity memory transmiting protocol. We describe the applications of these algorithms in encrypted USB partable harddisk, which is more secret, enctyting and transmiting in higher speed.
