| Since the first computer was born in 1946, computer technology has been in high-speeding development. Its development brings us a great number of changes in our social life. To a certain extent, computer applications more widely, have been related to people's lives in various fields, being indispensability and existing in our life everywhere.Library Management Information System (hereafter called LMIS) is a typical MIS, having become more and more popularized in such a management-and-information- stressed modern society. So-called MIS, composed of man, computer and other peripheral equipments, is a kind of system that takes information collecting, passing, saving, processing, maintaining and applying into effect. LMIS is a new blooming science, whose mostly mission is to improve the enterprise information management by making full use of modern computers as well as network communication technology, to create correct database, to improve and process to work out all kinds of information materials so as to offer the management staff upon research into resources like existing manpower, materials, financial, equipment, technology, in order for right decision, which improves enterprise management and economic benefit. At present, computer network in one enterprise has been an important method of rebuilding technology and improving the management.Daily management in library focuses on a series of management on book stocks, lending control, reader management, inquiry, lending status and so on which are done by librarians. At the present time, with the library extending scale in high universities as well as increasing students in our country, the managing work in library seems extremely strenuous more than expectation. Regards to traditional managing theory and method, people worked under high-intension with low efficiency as well as quality that is difficult to guarantee. With the assistance of computer management on kinds of books, it could help to release librarians from high-intention working and increase efficiency and quality a lot.The system is composed of book management, reader management, lending management and so on, in which there classifies book sort and information sub-management under book management. In order for readers to find out the books and managing the books more conveniently, it needs to insert the book sort with its serial number and corresponding sort for identification. It includes the functions like adding, modifying, deleting and searching. When librarian inputs the number, the relevant information reflects accordingly. The controller can modify or delete information that is input already. During the information searching for the books, many modes can be chosen; just input the key word, the finding function will start. Reader management module divides into sub-modules like reader classification management and reader information management. Reader with different ID enjoys in difference. Information management module includes functions like adding, modifying, deleting and searching. When input, the reader information must be real without any other duplicated number. When there is any repetition, there will be indication on next step. Deletion and modification for readers'information are the same as the book information. It could be found by reader's serious number, name and sort by entering the relevant key words, following with the searching result under the table. Lending management module divides into two sub-modules: lending and returning. When reader borrows some book, librarian could pick it up according to book name by putting key words in the system. If it shows available, the reader is able to borrow it. When the book is chosen, it screens out the reader, and then it will show"success"in the system. Therefore, there are three statuses in the searching module: lent, available, and ready-to-lend. When the reader returns the book, it could proceed either by book information or borrower, which is very easy to operate. With the fast development of computer nowadays, it is imperative to apply such a favorable tool onto a great deal of information management. The system has become an important symbol in both science and modernization in library management. This system adoption helps to solve problems and troubles effectively during daily management, but also improve the management system and increase working efficiency. Comparing with the manpower managing, its advantage shows mainly on the following:a. Fast index, convenient search, to help to increase the working efficiency and reduce disadvantages before like tedious work, complicated process and long cycle.b. Complete automatic book management, to reduce vulnerability and save the cost.c. Safe and reliable even though huge of information memory, improve the management.This management needs to realize six functions: find-out, book control, lending management, lending card management, data collection and system management.The whole frame of system adopts popular client/server which is very popular at present, based on Visual Basic6.0 as database language and application program. Visual Basic is integrated development environment software launched by Microsoft, one of the series productions of in Microsoft Studio,which inherits the previous advantages of Basic language and introduce program design technology facing to users, providing us the fastest and the most convenient channel to develop Windows application. Meanwhile, SQL server 2000 supports as back-end database. SQL Server 2000 database drives support necessary functions under demanding database process environment, which fully secures data integrality, managing to minimize the cost from amending database by hundreds of clients at the same time. Distributed database search function helps to quote database from different origins as if these data are part of SQL Server 2000. In addition, such distribution fully protects data update by any others.The system adopts structured life cycle as development method. This method is a very favorable, whose basic thought is to divide the whole system into several phases, with several activities. Every activity applies a series of standards, criterions, methods and technology, which shapes the nominated production.
