The Design And Realization Of Management Information System Of University Library

Information is an important trend of the world's economy and society development. Information has become an important resource, an important factor and direct productivity to realize economy and society development. Facing up to the information tide, as the one of the three stanchions of university, university library, which is responsible for servicing teaching and scientific research, gradually adopts computers to automation management. The tranditional library automation management systems, however, are hard to adapt and satisfy the need of university library under the circumstance of knowledge-based economy, and influence the function of library information management and service. Therefore, it is necessary to establish human-machine interactive library management information system (MIS) based on information technology, computer technology, networking technology to combine information, management with system, and to make library function maximal, service optimal and management canonical.According to the request of knowledge management of university library, and combining the development condition, technology level of MIS and the practical situation of library management, this paper designs and develops the management information system of university library. According to the content and characters of library work, the system not only automatizes the library operation, provides roundly reference gist for library vocational monitor and decision-making by powerful statistical function, especially can meet the need of inter-library cooperation and resources share of merged universities, but also it makes the interface very friendly, operation very simple and maintenance convenient.This paper descripts and defines the process of design, dedelopment and realization of university library MIS. At first, the relative concepts and technology bases are introduced, then "TOP-DOWN" development strategy and Waterfall Model, structured system analysis and design (SSA&D), Prototyping and life circle approach (LCA) are adopted to analyze roundly and amply the organization structure, organization operation flow, organization requirement and organization data flow, etc. of the current management system of university library. Based on the analysis results, the logical model of the new system is put forward. Second, the design of the conceptual structureand logical structure of the system's database are carried on based on the relational database theory and design methods, which is fit for the university library practical situation. At last, by using the structured design method, the system design is carried out and the physical model of the system is put forward. Under the Windows NT networking circumstance, Microsoft SQL Server 2000, as the databse management system (DBMS), and PowerBuilder 8.0, as the system development tool are chosen to program design and system realization. The university libarary MIS has such features as friendly interface, powerful function, convenient maintenace and good versatility.
