With the rapid development of the computer technology ,especially the Internet technology, computer application domain expands unceasingly, all industries involve computers, as well as the enterprise material management, the material management considered as "the third profit source" after reducing the material consumption and improving the productivity. Under the e-commerce environment, the informationiza-tion construction of the enterprise material management has become an important part.With the Information System becoming increasingly complex, multiplex and interactive, the traditional function-oriented methods of development cannot fit in with the complexity and inconstant requirements, the result of analysis and design cannot be reused effectively. By comparison, object-oriented modeling technique is flexible, reusable and can reduce the risk of development because it makes the complexity and changeability in control. So the objected technique can improve the development efficiency. The Unified Modeling Language(UML) inosculates the main concepts and technologies of prevalent object-oriented methods and absorbs their production. With its abundant expression and standard process, UML is fit for system modeling in every phase of lifecycle.The thesis summarizes UML technology, points out modeling process and tool, and shows its advantage in comparison to traditional methods. Aimed at implement of Enterprise Resource Planning for shipyard enterprise, this thesis analyses and designs Material Management System of ERP from requirement, analysis, design to realization. Firstly, it finished the detail demand analysis and gave the system's use case diagram based on the demand analysis. Secondly, it gave the system's static and dynamic model based on the use case model. The system's static model contains a part of class diagrams. The system's dynamic model contains the sequence diagrams, the cooperation diagrams and the activities diagrams. Finally, it gave the deployment diagrams of system, database design and a part of realization. In the implementation phase, the system chose the C/S software architecture. The system developed with VB.NET as the development tool and the large relational database SQL Server 2000 as the backstage database.The shipyard material management system based on UML manages the warehouse efficiently under the network environment, it makes the warehouse operation standardization and coordinates with the material flow of each department, which has practical significance and application value to grasp the warehouse information comprehensively in real time, improve the visibility and improve the efficiency of the material management and the operations.
