With the great development of modern cities, the traffic situation is becoming more and more complex. We have to face the problem of finding our position as soon as we leave our house .However, most of the navigation systems have shortcomings of large hardware volume, high software redundancy, low power and high cost. The application of embedded system could solve these problems effectively. The embedded system is a cabinet computer system which bases on the computer technology. It applies to the special equipment because of its assistant function to the equipment. The advantages of the embedded system can be summarized as follows: small volume, low power and good communication ability among the subsystems. This paper designs the GPS data-collection system based on ARM7 andμC/OS-II under this background. It first introduces how the ARM embedded system is established and inducted. Then, The transplanting of the embedded operating systemμC/OS–II and the application of the message box are analyzed particularly. Moreover, It elaborates the serial communication with the GPS incept module, the structure and program of NMEA 0183 data transport protocols and the collection and resolution of the GPS orientation information. Finally, It researthes how to derive the LCD display and show the message .The GPS data collection system application software is completed.
