Along with the coming of information times and economic globalization, many mechanical manufacture enterprises must have the ability of quick development and innovation if they want to survive and develop in the severe market competition. It has been proved that 3D CAD technology plays a prominent part in accelerating product development improving product quality and reducing cost. It is also an effective measure to strengthen the competence of product innovation and enhance the market competiotion.To achieve the parameterized design 3D gear is important to speed up the development and application of CAD technology, how to design the parameters gear is value to discuss..SolidWorks has been the first choice during choosing 3D design software. Because the products of enternrise have been serial, it is very important to develop a 3D parameterized CAD system combining with feature modeling technology on the basis of redevelopment of SolidWorks. In relation to the topic of establishing three-dimensional parameter model on the SolidWorks, the paper introduces the necessity of the secondary development and its general regulation. 3D mathematical models of the cylinder about straight gear-wheel, oblique gear-wheel and inside gear-wheel. At the same time, the parameter relationship between the model and the interface was established. The work that the author has done mainly includes several aspects as follower: The technology of redevelopment of SolidWorks, which includes the principle of redevelopment ,the methods of redeveloment and the tools of redevelopment,has been deeply explored. The technology of mechanical 3D solid modeling is entirely expounded, and it also establishes the design idear of feature-based parameterized design combining with the technology of feature modeling and parameterized design. A 3D parameterized CAD system of involute gear has been designed with VB. In this paper, the involute gear CAD modeling system, is based on the features, parameters, modular, the system is easy to use, easy to maintain and expend , load in SolidWorks as a module to generate gear automatically,improving the speed of modeling gear, laiding the foundation for improving design efficiency.The study of the subject also provides a reference to develop similar products, it is great benefit to teach and research work in the CAD / CAM , it also greatly accelerate the speed of a lot of gear modeling about the provincial education information project "CA6140 machine virtual simulation system".
