With the arrival of globalization and informatization, international news is more and more valued by the government and media. More and more Chinese communication scholars have placed study emphasis on researching how to better our media's communication results of international news. Based on the theory of journalism narration, there are special internal organizational characteristics and narration models when international news is being used as a narration text. This thesis employs international news reports of both Chinese and American mainstream media as targets of investigation. The main focus will be placed on the report of UK-Iran Marine Issue from both the international channel of Xinhua-net and the CNN world news service, for contrasting the Chinese narration style and the American and offering suggestions for Chinese international news editing. This thesis employs the research findings of the narration characteristics of journalism and the theory of journalism framework described in Journalism Narration by Zeng Qingxiang to compare and contrast the narration format of Chinese and American international news and to provide reasonable suggestions for international news editing through eight aspects: narration perspective, writing structure, sentence choice, word choice, subject of narration, description, narration chronology and news photos.According to my research findings, there are more elements of narration in American international news than in that of Chinese, and American media use more colorful and skilled narration techniques. Also, American international news always puts readers in the first place by delivering news that meets the readers'interests. In contrast, Chinese international news is always telling from the perspective of the government. At the same time, American international news has been deeply influenced by entertainment and narratives, while not so much on Chinese international news which still preserves its qualities of solemnity. This thesis introduces narration analysis into Chinese international news research for the first time and analyzes the narration of international news stories. I sincerely hope to give valuable suggestions to Chinese international journalism field, enhancing Chinese international news editing standards, and at the same time helping Chinese overseas poor results of communication, little attention from foreign audiences and low feedbacks that exist in the current state.
