In recent years, with the improvement of informatization and standardization for cadastral information management, the users have higher demand on information sharing, public services, network office and daily updating management etc. However, these new demands can not be satisfied either in the application system purely based on C/S or B/S model. A new architecture is studied and explored to meet the practical requirement of the cadastral information construction.First of all, after discussing the problems of the existing cadastral information systems, a solution of compound architecture based on Server GIS technology is proposed.Secondly, the related theories and key technologies of the Server GIS are discussed; furthermore, characteristics of the C/S and B/S architecture are analyzed. According to the analysises, the architecture and security mechanisms of the compound architecture are designed in detail.Finally, System module division, Subsystem structure, Database model and Security mechanisms of cadastral information system are designed based on the above compound architecture. The ArcGIS Server platform from ESRI Corporation is used for developing and deploying the test system.Application shows that the cadastral information system with compound architecture brings the advantages of two basic architectures into full play, keeps better load balancing of computation between the client and the server side and achieves the expected result. The result of research work makes sense to other GIS application system construction.
