Wireless sensor networks (WSN), as an ongoing technology of collecting and operating environments information, has been one of challenges in the 21st Century. This paper proposed a wireless solution to address the problems of the traditional greenhouse surveillance system, such as high cost, low expansibility and mobility, etc. It is highly significant for improving agricultural surveillance technology and productivity. The topic of this thesis is a sub-task of the National High-Tech Research and Development Plan of China ("863"). This thesis will accomplish the following research works:According to its demands Firstly, we proposed the model of greenhouse surveillance system based on WSN, and set up the main structure. Then we developed software of this system after we designed hardware. Combination of hardware and software can perform many functions, such as acquisition, gathering, storing, analysis and statistics. The implementation of greenhouse surveillance can effectively improve greenhouse management.Hardware: According to the functional requirements, we designed sensor and sink, based on MSP430F149 and LPC2214. We analyzed the structures of two nodes, and made chips selection and circuit design of modules. These works laid the foundation for function realization of greenhouse surveillance system.Software: Firstly, we programmed the driver of wireless transceiver module. And then we proposed a routing protocol based on minimum hop. Data packet format in communication was worked out as well. After that we connected wireless networks to Ethernet, by transplanting the ZLG/IP into sink. Finally, we set up a server with monitoring platform programmed with Google Map API. It is convenient for centralized management by remotely monitoring greenhouse.Software development environment for sensor was IAR Embedded Workbench Evaluation for MSP430, while we developed the codes of sink in ARM Developer Suite. Remote surveillance system was programmed with Ajax and Google Map API. Database was established by Microsoft SQL Server 2000.Finally, efficiency of system was verified by experiment in Xiaotangshan Model Garden in Beijing. The construction of greenhouse surveillance system has remarkable meaning in improvement of agricultural automation and production.
