Recently, the infrared remote control technique is widely applied in home appliances and audio-visual navigation systems for the automobile. With the development of the manufacturing for the remote control, remote market is extremely competitive. Apart from foreign markets, there is the greatest demand in domestic market.Infrared receiver chip for a short-range infrared remote control system is designed in this thesis. The whole chip includes the reference source, the preamplifier, the automatic gain amplifier, the limiting amplifier, the band-pass filter, the comparator, the integrator, etc. Firstly, the principle of the infrared receiver is investigated. To guarantee the accuracy of the center frequency, the center frequency adjustable technology is adopted to ensure receiving accurately the signal. After the principles of the different circuit module are analyzed, the circuit structures are designed. At the same time, the circuit performance parameters are simulated based on the process model with EDA software. The simulation results are in detail analyzed to verify the designed circuit. Finally, the in-depth research for the layout arrangement is carried out, and the design and the verification of layout are accomplished with software.The chip is manufactured with double-well two polycrystalline silicon three aluminum process (CSMC 0.5um mixed signal CMOS). The samples are tested, and the measurement results show that the signal reception can well realized when the signal distance is about 1m under different transmission frequency condition. When supply voltage ranges from 2.7V to 5.5V and power consumption is about 5mW when the chip normally works, the infrared data reception function can be realized. And the chip can support four kinds of different transmission frequency. The designed chip achieves the expected performance requirements.
