RFID-enabled Application Integration Middleware Evaluation Criteria Research

RFID middleware gained a lot attention, it supports the RFID application, it is the brige between devices such as tags, readers and enterprise applications such as enterprise resource planning (ERP), customer relationship Management (CRM).However, enterprises should select a suitable RFID middleware, not only satisfy the functional criteria, but also consider the economic, integration, security and other factors. The selection of RFID middleware would involved the IT infrastructure, business process and the operation of business, the hasty decision-making would bring the human, material or financial losses. While the existing study of RFID middleware evaluation are based on economic or functional perspective, which means that a comprehensive RFID middleware evaluation criteria should be needed, and fully reflects the features of RFID technology.Firstly, it focuses on the logic infrastructure and requirements of the RFID middleware, and analysis the three core functional parts of the RFID middleware. Based on the application it divide the application model into slap and ship application model, ROI oriented application model, integration application model. Based on these we analysis the function of RFID middleware.Then analysis the requirements from management and technology, and build an evaluation criteria from economic, functional, integration, and security perspective. The evaluation criteria were establishment based on the software engineering and the international RFID middleware standard, and more targeted of indicators, combining the approach of theoretical and practical. It built to help the companies to do strategic planning, and also help domestic RFID middleware vendors to better understanding the long-term demand of RFID middleware.Finally, it selects nine RFID middleware products on the market to evaluate, and analysis their different performance.
