As a subsystem of the catering industry, the wireless dish ordering system is designed to reduce the labor force cost and improve the quality and efficiency of the service. Working with this system, the waiter can use a palm-handled terminal to accept the consumers' orders instead of recording them on paper. The terminal then transmits these orders to the service center quickly via electromagnetic wave and the processing result returned soon. The waiters don't need to go and back between the service desk and the dining desks and the guests' requests are submitted without delay. Satisfaction of the guests is improved as well as the waiters' working efficiency.Resumptively, the wireless dish ordering system is the hardware and software being designed specially for the catering industry. The hardware, including a computer, a wireless base station and a number of wireless terminals, offers the basic platform for the system. The software, which covers the management toll running on PC, the program controlling the station, and the codes operating the wireless terminal, guides hardware to realize the wireless dish ordering system's functions.The single station is the center of the wireless dish ordering system. Several terminals communicate with it using a same frequency. The terminals accept requests and transmit them to the station wirelessly. The information is carried to the computer across the serial interface from the station and processed there. The results are returned to the terminals by the reverse way. Our research focuses on how to design the hardware and software to support each step of the information transmitting course.We use MSP430F123(MCU) to control the station, wireless module RF CC1100 as wireless signal transceiver .We link the station and PC with serial interface supporting RS-232 and RS-485. We also constitute the communication protocols and confirm the poll strategy to be the method to achieve it. The software realizes those protocols and strategy, and used them to guide the hardware how to work. Both the hardware and the software run well and the whole system can perform all the functions that required. The design of the dish ordering system is successful.
