Since multibeam bathymetry systems have been used more widely and the miniaturization devices have been developed, acoustic oceanography becomes hot spot by multibeam systems. In this dissertation, on the basis of Chinese multibeam echo sounder and making reference to some foreign similar products, the shallow water multibeam sounding sidescan system has been studied. In this dissertation, A shallow water multibeam sounding side-scan system was designed. And some key techniques were analyzed. The operating principles and parameters of multibeam Sounder and sidescan sonar were given a presentation. It is also for shallow water multi-beam sounding side-scan system and the whole design of the system. In two sides, theoretical analysis and computer simulation, beamforming techniques of virtual sensor, FFT and interpolation were studied; seabed undulated topography and calibration of central beam area were discussed deeply by Matlab simulation. Through the comparison to simulation results, the advantages and disadvantages of this method were obtained. And then, specifically the acoustic imaging maps from the multi-beam side-scan data were studied. The focuses of this dissertation is on researching beamforming techniques of virtual sensor and interpolation. Through contrasting with the virtual sensor, interpolation of the seabed data, the effectiveness of the method that combining the virtual sensor and the interpolation beam-forming was proved. Finally, it was discussed simply that using shallow water multibeam sounding side-scan system in the seabed sediment acoustic classification methods.
