Bill of Material (BOM) is a core part information system of small and medium-sized manufacturing enterprises. BOM, the technical document defining the product structure, reflects the layers and quantitative relationship of all of components of products. It constitutes the data base of the information systems with material attributes document and process routes. Its accuracy has a direct effect on successful implementations of Information systems.This paper systematically summarizes researches and practices about BOM. By analyzing the BOM demand of Xiamen forklift truck factory, we provide a solution about BOM in its information system. This paper focuses on the following problems:①After widely summarizes related researches, this paper points out dilemmas about implementations of information systems in median and small manufacturing companies, and then analysis the status of current researches;②This paper summarizes the researches on BOM, and illustrates related fundamental theories about BOM. This paper also provides fundamental basis and builds up an application framework for solving BOM problems;③This paper analyzes how to apply relational database system in BOM and puts forward a creative method to construct database based on monolayer filiations and builds up an effective data structure;④This paper analyzes control technology in BOM applications and gives some solutions. Such as concurrent control based on atomic transaction model and consistency maintenance and effective control;⑤This paper puts forward an instance based on BOM management system of Xiamen forklift truck factory and expounds how to build up a BOM management system effectively in median and small manufacturing companies. BOM management system of Xiamen forklift truck factory improves its production and operations management in practice.
