Oxygen saturation, one of the most crucial biomedical characteristics of human, is defined as the ratio of oxyhaemoglobin to the total concentration of haemoglobin present in the blood. Pulse oximetry directly reflects the situation of oxygen supply for the human tissues, has vital importance in the fields of clinic medical and wardship. The dissertation, Research on the Core Issues of Non-invasive Pulse Oximetry Surveillance System, co-sponsored by the cooperation project (No: 2006DFA13510) of Ministry of Science and Technology Department of P. R. China,Istituto di Fisiologia Clinica, Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche and Polo Sant'Anna Valdera, Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna, Italy, was dedicated to the exploration of design details of pulse oximetry module using the ultra-low power consumption MSP430 microcontroller from Texas Instruments; meanwhile, the design of pulse oximetry probe was carried through with the LEDs and Photo-diode manufacutured by CETC-44th Research Institute; finally, M2M concept was introduced into the structure of Non-invasive Pulse Oximetry and Breath Surveillance System built up with the solution from Telit Communications S.p.A, and a prototype board was fabricated for the validation of system functionality. The tasks of the prject are related to the following aspects:①Study on the principle of non-invasive pulse oximetry detection, based on the Beer-Lambert Law, the design of oxygen saturation measurement system was discussed, using the ultra-low power consumption micro-controller MSP430FG439;②Referred to Nellcor DS-100A, experiment on the pulse oximetry probe with the LEDs and PIN photo-diode GT101 from CETC-44th Research Institute was made;③Deep investigation into the core issues of the pulse oximetry signal extraction, including digital signal processing application, movement artifacts and self-adaptive control algorithm, in oreder to improve the system performance;④Catering to the dynamic requirements of medical application, the non-invasive pulse oximetry and breath surveillance system with Telit cutting-edge GPRS module GM862-GPS was built-up.With the ISP service from Vodafone Italia, the pre-defined surveillance targets were achieved.
