Industry and management level is relatively backward even though urban power supply, water, gas and hot water are developing rapidly. For many years, people at home and abroad have got the toll by checking meters. This traditional mode that manual reading meter need checker enter household and read meter, then charge collector visit customers'houses or send bill to them and account by bank. Now, this way, which is time/labor consumptive and have lowly accuracy and betimes, don't meet the requirement of society's development. With the development of radio technology, the chip's lower production costs, it is a trend of time radio technology will be used for fuel gas industry. By using wireless sensor networks to administrate gas meter information, we can solve the insufficiency caused by manual method and wired networks. It is mainly because of its flexible and convenient installation, short construction period and cheap cost. The system has great flexibility by applying wireless transmission technology. So, it is very suitable for civilian equipment.According to the requirements of gas meter monitoring and management, a framework for city gas monitoring and management system based on wireless sensor networks is constructed. The paper has a detailed analysis on function of fuel gas meter monitoring node and gas data acquisition and administration node, and completed the design of various types of nodes. long-distance data transmission can be realized by wireless communications network and non-adjacent nodes'communication between each other through multi-routing. Considered a reliable data transmission and wireless sensor network nodes'life, we analyze and design the data transmission network of node multi-hop routing protocol. The paper have designed the wireless sensor network node's hardware and software function. Through the conversion and acquisition, we transmit the traditional mechanical gas meter's flow information into digital signal. Using Embedded microprocessor to store and manage it and wireless data transmission interface, we can realize the function of reception and transmission of data. According to gas meter reading tasks, we have studied gas data acquisition and management convergence node'software realization method based on PDA, and have completed the gas meter wireless sensor network node monitoring and management.The paper have combined the technology of PDA and wireless sensor networks, designed mobile city gas meter monitoring and management system based on wireless sensor networks. Through the design of wireless network node data acquisition methods and data transmission routing protocol, we completed the design of gas meters'control nodes and PDA-based data acquisition and management of gas nodes'convergence software. So, it realizes the implementation of the city gas meter network, and wireless and mobile management, conservation of the human cost. Furthermore, it increases the gas meter monitoring and management system's automation and flexibility degree.
