With the development of modern control theory and satellite communication technology, it is possible for exchanging data with satellite on the moving carrier. The key point in moving satellite communication is using digital-compass and gyro to segregate the influence of the moving carrier to the gesture of antenna and making the antenna precisely aim at the satellite to carry out the continuous communication with the satellite.The paper discusses the process of designing and exploiting a kind of mobile satellite communication system that used in receive TV signal. This design can reduce the cost of system as much as possible on the basis of good system performance, so as to provide conditions of the products' extension. With this purpose, by taking the automatic tracking system of mobile satellite antenna on ship as the research object, the paper has analyzed various design schemes and proposed the design based on electronic compass, GPS and C8051F020.The principle of satellite tracking is the basic of the system research. Before the discussion of the system design, the calculating equations of azimuth and elevation are approached based on spherical geometry, which is easier and more intuitive. Based on this, a modified method is proposed according to the calculating equations. Based on table lookup and linear interpolation, this calculating method trades little cost of precision and memory space to a great improve on running speed in the trigonometric function calculation. Practice shows that the modified method is feasible and has its own use value in project.The paper also has presented the concrete system design, including the hardware implementation and the software implementation. The hardware design mainly includes the interface circuit from the electronic compass, GPS to MCU C8051F020 and the peripheral circuit, such as the key module, the display module, the data collection module, etc. The software security architecture and system software scheme based on interruption technology is discussed in software design. The design method of foreground-background architecture and modular design has greatly improved the software operation efficiency and Stability. The program ID architecture and the data redundancy is also been adopted in the system to improve the security of system software. At last, this paper points out the next step of the work according to the problems occurred in the system development process.
