Wireless sensor network(WSN) is a way that people communicate with nature. Along with the development of the sensor technology, The sensor is now miniaturization and diversification. This make wireless sensor networks show its potential in industry and commerce. On the design of wireless sensor networks, the routing protocol of Ad Hoc is always used. But WSN is different from Ad Hoc network, it needs energy balance and data fusion. In some designing of application systems, people always choose the routing protocol of Ad Hoc as the routing protocol of WSN. But the routing protocol of WSN has its own need in energy balance, data fusion. As a result we need a protocol that can be used in industry and commerce. This protocol can been carried out easily, meanwhile it can prolong the life of network through energy balance in the network and reduce the send of excrescent data through dada fusion. The wireless sensor is deeply researched and some applications using WSN is shown in this paper. It tells us that the wireless sensor networks have show different traits in different applications. The wireless sensor network used in different applications show something different in the change of network topology, the need of energy consumption and the manner of message transmit. That makes us try to find a routing protocol which can be used for manifold applications.A new routing protocol named sink-flood is proposed in this paper after analyzed the operation traits of the wireless sensor networks. The new protocol discover routing through flood-messaging. This routing protocol has the traits such as that it can be easily controlled and has lower energy consumption. In order to verify the performance of the protocol, NS2 (which is a software in UNIX) has been used to write the program of the new protocol. In this paper the new protocol on the energy consumption is tested through creating simple scene; Through creating the simulaton scene of bridge monitoring, the feasibility of using sink-flood protocol in this system is analyzed; Through creating the simulation scene of entironment monitoring, the performance of the new protocol is studied. Sink-flood routing protocols, as one of the routing protocols in the wireless network, can be used in Ad Hoc network after modifying the program. Aiming at the frequent change of topology in Ad Hoc network, a complex scene is created. The new protocol is compared with AODV, DSDV protocols on different performance parameters such as packet delivery fraction, average end to end delay and routing load. The results of simulation show that the new protocol can actualize energy balance in the network. It is more suitable to be used in wireless sensor network than AODV protocol, meanwhile the new protocol can get higher packet deliver fraction in the gas monitoring system without thinking about energy consumption. Based on the study of the Ad Hoc network simulation scene, the new protocol, as one of the table-driven protocols, has better protocol astringency and higher packet delivery fraction than DSDV protocol.
