Embedded Management Proxy Agent is of great importance in an open HFC Network Equipment Management System. With the increasing requirement of Management Agent, the system complexity is becoming larger and larger. As a result, the traditional method of the embedded software development is no longer able to deal with it. New methods are in great need. Management Agent is a typical realtime embeded reaction system; hence, it can make use of the novel theory and experience of the embeded system. Statechart is an effective tool to describe the complicated state action of embeded reaction system. Therefore, Statechart is quite a reasonable choice to analysis and design of the software of the Management Agent.The dissertation first analyzes the architecture of an open HFC Network Equipment Management System. Then, it introduces the UML notation, the expended feature and the application of UML in model-driven embedded system development. The UML-based modeling process is also discussed. To be continued, describes the theory of the traditional FSM and its shortcomings, and then it expatiates the theory of the advanced UML Statechart diagram and its application in many fields. Moreover, propose two methods for Statechart modeling: one is to identify states using hybrid diagram, the other is to construct hierarchical Statechart with the help of hierarchy tree.Based on the work above, it applies the UML Statechart into the analysis and design of the Management Agent software, takes EDFA as an example, and introduces the process of software requirement and modeling. It bases on software requirement, and then gradually completes the design. It applies the Object-Oriented method to the design and construction of the use case model, object structure model and behavior model. Then, describes the system hierarchical Statechart design, the integration of Starechart and RTOS, real-time framework and hardware architecture. At last, simulates and verifys the the model by visual UML modeling tool, and provides the test results of the Agent model.
