DRM (Digital Radio Mondiale) is a global organization of AM broadcasting. It provides a digital system for the short wave, medium wave, and long wave broadcasting which has a wide range cover and long distance transmission. The timbre is improved, the interference is retained, and the contents are enriched by using DRM standard on the old bandwidth. Facing with the great challenge from the TV and Internet, AM broadcasting finds its own way of developing.Using OFDM technology, DRM system improves the frequency band utility, decreases the frequency selective fading caused by multi-path effect, and wakens the Doppler shift. But at the same time, DRM receiver is much more complex than AM receiver. Synchronization algorithms with an especially high quality are required and it is the key part for a well-working communication system. This thesis introduced how the DRM standard came out and developped, the present research, and the bright future of DRM. It also generally described DRM system's structure, design of hardware digital receiver and software system framework. Every kind of synchronization and its algorithms were detailedly analyzed and compared in this paper. A software structure of DRM receiver based on DSP platform was put forward according to the characteristics of DRM standard and the requirement of embedded platform. Meanwhile the implement of synchronization part was particularly discussed. At last, a part of synchronization module was emulated by Matlab to prove its correctness. By debugging the synchronization modules with other module, the functions of DRM receiver were basically completed.
