Gearbox is one of the key components of automobile driving system and it directly affects the vehicle's specifications in dynamics, efficiency and operationability etc. and even more, the economics and market. Thus, the performance test and corresponding test equipment are indispensable for the gearboxes in the phases of design, manufacture and after-sale.The thesis summarizes the fundamentals of gearbox and its test, as well as the present status, requirements and difficulties. A detailed description is made for the design of a testbench that may be characterized as following:1) Four induction motors compose the gearbox driving and loading system controlled by converters powered by a common DC bus, thus forms the main structure of a DC bus electrically closed testbench;2) The control system is composed of a supervisory computer and PLCs with the Profibus network. Application software is written with Step7 and WinCC.3) With the design some problems of significance such as the high speed data collection and archiving are studied and solvedThe thesis is ended with the test results of the designed testbench for the test of the gearbox of JAC's 4WD/2WD passenger vehicle. The practical test verified that the design is feasible and applicable.
