Design And Implementation Of Information Handbook Based On Smartphone

Information is a significant characteristic of the modern society. With the development of economy and people's living standard, the requirement of information is more and more intense. People hope that they could communicate timely and reliably, without time or space restrictions. In order to meet these needs, various value-added services come out. The developing trend of the communication industry is to develop information services using existing wireless terminals. Using mobile phone as the main information carrier, people could obtain information anytime and anywhere.To meet the development demand of information services, this paper discusses the design and implementation of an electronic information handbook based on smartphone, which provides basic city information and traveling information of Beijing for foreign tourists during and after the upcoming Olympic Games. We mainly focus on the design of subsystems and detailed description on the implementation of the main parts. The software supports the function of offline inquiry by accessing a local database installed in the mobile phone. The data in use are mostly managed and maintained by symbian's DataBase Management System. Accessing the database by Structured Query Language has the strongpoint of good expansibility and high speed. Meanwhile, it is very convenient to update the database by parsing a XML file into a database file. We also make the software monitor the mobile's inbox in the background and acquire the information needed, and then we can transform the text of weather report into pictures using ergodic match algorithm. The meaning of this paper is that the implementation of information handbook can make practical contribution to the solution for people's need of information anywhere anytime in the present situation that information services industry being not mature enough. It makes the system widespread possible, as the system can be used in different regions only by changing database information. It can perform dynamic Chinese-English translation to an extent and more flexible, compared to other kindred production. Meanwhile, due to the system's modularity, it can easily be integrated into other system.
