The full name of WiMAX is Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access. It is a new technology for wireless WAN with higher speed transmission, wider cover range, better capacity of resisting disturbance, flexible disposition. Because of these advantages, WiMAX will become the "last one mile" bandwidth access mode instead of DSL and cable. These years, the standards for WiMAX focus on the wireless air interface, no discuss is about how WiMAX access CN(core network). So, we will discuss WiMAX networking solutions in this paper.In this paper, we discuss network interworking between EPON and WiMAX. There are three parts.Firstly, the thesis briefly introduces WiMAX's advantages by comparing it with other wireless access method, lists the development of WiMAX standard and indicates the necessity of this paper.Secondly, the thesis explains the WiMAX and EPON in detail, including the network architecture, physical and MAC layer, traffic transmission method and key techonology. The part makes a knowledge background for the following research.Finally, the thesis investigates network interworking between EPON and WiMAX seriously. The reseach includes the designing of network topology, the choices of network components. Also, we use "the worst system designing" to validate the system design. Meanwhile, there are some suggestions about the implement of EPON key technology.
