AS/RS is a complex system with Machinery, Computer, Controlling, Detection, Electronics, and Communications. The system has merits of convenience and shortcut, automatic controlling and space saving. At present, it has been applied widely in various storage environment of large, medium and small scale. And it plays an important part in enhancing the production efficiency, reducing the cost, and increasing the benefits. Its automatic controlling and management system can be divided into three ranks, that is, upper-level management rank, medium-level monitoring rank and lower-level controlling rank. The monitoring rank system lies in the middle of the storage controlling system and it plays an extreme important role in the coordination and optimal operation of the whole system.On the basis of large quantities of references related to the above subject, the general situation of AS/RS is summarized comprehensively and AS/RS is regarded as the research object. Design and development on the communication network and monitoring system of two sets of AS/RS system has been completed, which Basing on a mature AS/RS controlling system equipment and theory, and according to the situation on the spot of practical project and the requirements of the users.1. Features of all kinds of communication network generally used in AS/RS are synthetically analyzed. Wireless network broadcasting station is introduced into AS/RS controlling system for the first time, which according to the situation on the spot of practical project and the requirements of the users. On the basis, Communication network which combines wireless Ethernet and wired Ethernet has been successfully set up, which also provides the successful model for the similar system design to profit from.2. Functions of the monitoring system are analyzed and confirmed from the requirement analysis on the system and the demands of users. On the basis of introducing advanced OPC technique and with the configuration software RSView32 as the major supporting platform, the AS/RS's monitoring system which can be applied in the field has been successfully designed. The monitoring system can reflect the equipment running state real-time and accurately. Furthermore, it can cany on the accurate judgement and the localization to the equipment failure, and also can carry on the long-distance replacement control and so on.3. The design process of communications project and the monitoring system in the above program are introduced in detail. A comparative analysis on a different communication network adopted in another practical program is made, which proves the fact that the wireless Ethernet communications mode is doubtlessly the better communications project applied in AS/RS at present. The research achievement has been in operation in a company's AS/RS for nearly one year. From practice, it indicates the following: The controlling of the system is safe and reliable, and the data transferring is timely and accurate. The operation of the system is stable and the monitoring is real-time and effective. System failure judgement and localization are accurate. The operation interface is friendly and the system improves work efficiency. Therefore, it achieves the anticipative function requirements and has fine application and popularization values.
