With rapid development of Internet and Wireless technique, more and more users employ WLAN and ADSL or Cable Modem to access Internet. In order to provide shared access services for the WLAN, the research and development of wireless wideband SOHO router are of significance and have their practicability. The paper begins with the introduction of Embedded System, describs the wireless wideband SOHO router's hardware platform, builds the cross envirenment, ports the PPCboot and Linux kernel, builds the root filesystem and develops the applications include web server, pppoe, dhcp server, and firewall module which is based on Shell. The author tests and analyzes the system's performance at the end of this paper. The specific work includes:Detailed exploring the development of 32-bit embedded system, porting the PPCboot and Linux kernel to the target board under the cross-compile enviroment built by this author;More detailed and deeper analyzing the Linux kernel: process, memory management, filesystem, ipc and network. Analyze the ip packet Send/Receive process, Linux nat, Linux firewall.Building the root filesytem and application modules, include boa web server, pppoe, DHCP server.Designing a firewall module base on Shell. Deeply simplifying the configuration to the firewall.Implemeting a wireless wideband SOHO router system based on embedded Linux. Testing the prototype system for availability and performance; analyzing the test results.
