Xdsl Router Design Based On Embedded Linux Platform

This paper includes the definition of xDSL, the basic introduction of Linux, and how to combine these two together efficiently to form a high-performance xDSL wireless router.With the popularity of xDSL, private users not only demand their family gateway devices can connect to the Internet but also meet their needs of diversified application. As a result,the market of wireless router ADSL is developing quite fast.After analyzing the present requirement of telecom operators',the author points out the whole technical specifications of router, which should be multi-functional,including Network Address Translation(NAT),network firewall,tether-less access and quality of service(QoS).Furthermore, the cost has also been taken into consideration.Because this device will be largely bought by telecom operators,price will be an important factor definitely. Author's conception reaches a balance of function and price, thus solves the contradiction.The author deeply involved in the research and development project of this device, on the basis of demands, first designed device's whole hardware, laid out the links among router's main chips, switches, wireless chips,Flash and SDRAM. Then the author gave a sketch the entire software, also defined the relation and interface (port)between different modules.Finally the author implemented each module function of software,and made united adjustment to every part.After finishing all the development tasks,the author made specific tests to the performance indexes of the router.Compare to other similar products, the new router has its unique advantages,because on the premise of sufficient cost control,it has identical functions with other products sometimes even better, which will be really competitive in the market.
