Based On The Arm Embedded System Design And Soho Router Applications

With the development of Internet and the coming of the post-PC era, the embedded system technology is becoming the center of interests in the IT industry and bringing along a large market. Meanwhile, plenty of the embedded applications call for better performance and functionality. 8/16-bit microcontrollers' speed and memory can't meet the demand of the embedded Internet applications. With the development of IC technology,32-bit RISC processors are welcomed widely in embedded technologies.Internet's rapid growth bring more conveniences to people, work will not limit in a fixed place. At the same time, many small companies were setting up, in the future, more and more people will work in their homes or small offices via the Internet. They are called SOHO(small office, home office) race. Also in the future, all kinds of appliances will be connected with the Internet. So this paper's intention are design a SOHO router for those demand.With its inherited networking functions, modularization design, source-free and microkernel, Linux can be ran on many kinds of processors. uClinux is a version of the Linux operating system kernel that runs on microprocessors without a MMU. They are all very suitable to be the embedded operating system.With many high performances, ARM 32-bit RISC series processors had been the biggest CPU provider in embedded product markets, such as mobile communication, handset etc.In this paper, All the work had been done summarized as follows:1.Designed the hardware platform with ARM940T core processor s3c2500, the methods of hardware choice and circuits design are also concluded. 2.Successfully ported uClinux to the hardware platform. 3.Based on the platform, we designed a SOHO router with simple functions.
