With increasing competition in the market, how to reduce the development time and cost had become hotspots in the modern enterprise. In the field of industry, Reverse Engineering was paid more attention than before, and had been widely used. Reverse Engineering was a process of gaining digital model from the prototype. It fitted for the sculpting design of products which were complicated in the shape, and had several free-form surfaces. The main contents of Reverse Engineering included: the digitization measurement, the data pretreatment, and the model reconstruction. The model reconstruction was one of the most important research problem in Reverse Engineering. The theory of NURBS had developed maturely comparatively, and had become the common standard in the CAD/CAM System.This dissertation took the reconstruction of digital models as the main content, and researched digital modeling theory and methods based on the optical measurement. The conception and theory of data processing in reverse engineering were discussed. The main contents included: the methods of data unify, noise-removal process, data compression technique, technology of mending and dividing were studied. On the one hand, the basic theory and method surface reconstruction were discussed. It discussed the mathematic model of NURBS, studied their characteristic and expatiates on the important effect of control points and the power gene in the shape controlling. And then it analyzed the interpolation and approximation of curve. On the other hand, Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire2.0 was taken as software platform. it introduced the main function and model in PRO/E software, and studies the curve reconstruction based on the PRO-ENGINEER WILDFIRE 2.0 platform, it was a short cut of surface reconstruction. Taking material object as basis, it presented the method of the curve reconstruction using Geomagic-studio and PRO-E at the same time. Based on the discussion of curve and surface fitting, it researched on the methods of geometric continuity of curve and surface joint and curve surface smoothing, and then presented the method of combine surface joint and smoothing and the criterion of the qulity of the fitting surface.
