Nowadays, coal exploitation most carried underground. There is lots of coal dust produced during the production course in all coal mine's working places. The coal dust granule's prodigious harm is decided by the proper quality: seriously hurting the coal miners' health by pneumoconiosis; accelerating the machine abrasion and abridging precision instrument's service life; even causing coal dust explosion. Not only in technical level but also in practical application course, there are many insurmountable problems about the measuring ways and instruments of the coal dust in coal mine: the common sampling methods can only get the coal dust's instantaneous value at a sampling point. So the result can't dynamically reflect the coal dust pollution in working location and is short of integral representation. In addition, the sampling course is quite fussy, real-time performance is poor and measurement error is biggish. This research specially designed a new kind of mine dust monitoring device and carried out related experimental test.This thesis originates from the project "The coal mine safety monitoring and management system". This device uses microscopic dust particles' collecting and CCD image sensor technology; under the control of microprocessors, realizing the coal dust distributing image's digitization, encoding compression and Ethernet remote communication. It employs image processing methods to analyze the distribution of coal dust particles and based on this, calculates the consistency of coal dust. The device flows sampling, repeats measurements and then calculating the average value to reduce the measurement error and expands the measurement range.In terms of hardware, it regards SCM system as the main controller. This equipment adopts coal dust particles' collector, microscopic CCD image sensor and so on as detector. Under the coordination of Image Acquisition and Control SCM, get the image of coal dust particles' distribution through detector and realize image acquisition and compression by Video Input Processor(SAA7111) and TMS320VC5410-120 DSP chip, and then use Ethernet controller(RTL8019AS) and Ethernet Integrated Switch chip(IP175A) to transmit the compressed data into Ground Control Center. At last, the main computer at Ground Control Center decompresses the image data and calculates the consistency of coal dust. Showing the results at Ground Control Center. It can communicate with the ground main computer via UDP protocol.In terms of software, this paper mainly introduces the lower- machine's design of hardware and software. So related software mostly includes the program of DSP and SCM. The software is composed of VC5410 Bootloading program, initializing program of SAA7111, image compression coding program based on JPEG and the program of written remote DMA of RTL8019AS. The JPEG image compression-coding program programmed by assembly language of DSP is the core of software. In regard algorithm, according to the special instruction system of TMS320VC5410, optimized the JPEG algorithm and made full use of DSP's hardware resource.Through experiments it's proved that the on-line and real-time distribution image of coal dust collected by this device is in line with the requirements of image processing algorithm.
