With the developing of Wavelength-Division-Multiplexing (WDM) technology, the transmission ability of optical communication system may enhance a couple of times rapidly. As the channel space of WDM system is very small, it's easy to produce channel crosstalk, and even interrupt the communication, so it's necessary to monitor the performance of optical channel. We made the acoustic-optical tunable optical performance monitor (OPM) with the filter of acousto-optic tunable filter (AOTF) successfully by using the integrated optical technique for the first time. Acoustic-optical tunable OPM is all-solid-state device, without any mechanism drive and tuning set. What's more, it has many advantages such as wide tunable range and fast tunable speed compared with the other OPM. Therefore, the acousto-optic tunable OPM will be used at home and board at the field of optical channel monitoring.We researched the acousto-optic tunable OPM with the filter of AOTF theoretically and experimentally. The main contents of the thesis are as follows:1. The theoretical basis of channel monitoring, the different filer and the different tuning method of OPM were included.2. The basic structure and working theory of AOTF is explained, the mode conversion and coupling of AOTF was introduced and the reason of side lobe was analyzed.3. Based on the filtering characteristic of AOTF, we presented a novel acousto-optic tunable OPM. The basic structure and working theory was introduced, and the crosstalk level of OPM was analyzed. At last, we calculated the crosstalk value when the acousto-optic interaction length and the structure were different.4. The novel acousto-optic tunable OPM was researched experimentally, include the single channel and the multiple channels were monitored, and the experiment result tally with the theory analysis well. Then we analyzed the resolving power and test precision, and at last we gave the detailed methods for further enhance the performance of device.
