With the rapid development of optical fiber communication technology, especially of the dense wavelength division multiplexing(DWDM)technology, the data transmission rate in single-wavelength reached 80Gbps and nearly Tbps in single fiber.It provided base for integration services of cable television networks,telephone switching network and computer network.However, Internet was not catered for such converged service because of its complicated three-layer user-data translate platform,low transmission efficiency and absence of QoS insurance.For the very reason,SC-Netcom Lab(Sichuan Network Communication Technology Laboratory)has introduced the Single User-data transfer & switching Platform Architecture Network(SUPANET).The SUPANET simplifies User-data transfer & switching platform(U-platform)into a single physical layer platform by adopting the out-band signaling concept,while keeps existing protocol stacks of Internet in the Signaling & Management platform (S&M-platform)to enable interoperation with Internet.The key technique enabling the single U-platform is called EPFTS(Ethernet-oriented Physical Frame Timeslot Switching).SUPANET provides multimedia traffic with a QoS-insured,connection-oriented transmission service.Signaling is the nervous system of communication network.Signaling system transmits control information in the nodes of communication network,in order to establish and release links for communications purposes.Only with the signaling system can be effectively guarantee the normal operation of telecommunication networks.This paper carries out an exploring research on signaling mechanism based on EPF in SUPANET.On the basis of comparing different network architectures of signaling mechanisms,this paper analysises the progress of establishing,maintaining and releasing connection between the end-users.In accordance with the characteristics of SUPA network architecture, this paper sets down SUPANET UNI signaling and NNI signaling framework, and puts forward and compares two signaling transmission projects based on the thinking of out-band signaling.This paper has useful experiment for SUPANET in the practical application.With the theoretical research,OPNET is used to simulate SUPANET signaling process to validate its availability and efficiency by constituting a simplified SUPA network topology structure,and definites simplified UNI signaling packet format and QoSNP packet format.The relevant simulation results of the process of establishing/endding connection,resource reservation indicate the validity of SUPANET signaling process which basically complies with the feature of the signaling work procedure.
