In recent years, with the fast developing of computer technology, research on embedded system has been one of the information industry's hotspots. In the process of developing embedded systems, how to achieve a friendly human-computer interface brings new challenges. As a result of multiplicity of national cultures, different users have different writing habits. Hence, the computer needs to provide different interfaces to meet their needs. Nowadays, there are few editors that support Mongolian writing style in embedded systems. It brings much inconvenience to the users who deal with Mongolian information using embedded systems. In this paper, an editor that supports Mongolian style writing habit is designed and implemented by Qt. The editor runs on embedded-Linux platform based on ARM processor, and implements a vertical typeset method. It provides functionalities to select, cut, copy, paste, and delete text, and also can set the font type, font size, color and display scale. The design and implementation include following steps: analyzing the source code of Qt4.3.2, familiar with the text processing mechanism; and installing the operating environment of Qt's desktop, designing the editor's framework; then building target machine environment which includes loading boot system, kernel's startup, device driver and file system; finally cross-compiling the source code of editor and running on target platform.
