Individual made to measure for garniture is a new mode of clothing production in 21th century and become one of most important points of research in the field of clothing production. 3-D anthropometry is one of key parts of individual made to measure for garniture. In this paper, we majored research on technologies of image measurement system and 3-D body measurement. We develop a new 3-D body measurement system for individual made to measure for garniture, the main works can be summarized as follows:(1)We analyze the actuality and specialty of image measurement system and find it can not adapt for individual made to measure for garniture in network. We expatiate on scheme and process of new 3-D body measurement system and show the model of 3-D body measurement.(2)On analyze of the model of 3-D body measurement, we find body contour extraction is the key part of the model but the existing methods of contour extraction can not adapt for this model. A new approach of body contour extraction of parameter optimization based on GVF-SNAKE for body contour extraction is raised in this paper. The result from comparative experiment of extracting contour of human body shows this approach has a good effect and practicability.(3)On this step, we propose a 3-D body measurement algorithm based on body contour extraction. First, the body form structure characteristices is selected from the whole characteristics of the body. Second, an approach of 2-D body measurement is designed. Finally, 3-D body circumference size forecast model is constructed.(4)Based on the 3-D body measurement algorithm described before, we design 3-D body measurement software system on the principle of object oriented. We focus on model structure, model interface and data structure. At the last, the result from measure experiment of the true body proves that the 3-D body measurement system adapts well for the demand of individual made to measure for garniture.An in-depth study on 3-D body measurement system will promote the development of individual made to measure for garniture.
