With the rapid development of Internet services and the coming of various new services, traditional access network becomes the bottleneck of the whole transmission network because of the rapidly increasing requirements of network bandwidth. The fiber access technique, especially PON techniques, is deemed as the best solution about this problem. At present, the popular PON techniques are APON, EPON and GPON.APON and EPON have not achieved success in business for their low efficiency of loading services. GPON has inartificial ability of loading TDM services and can simply and high efficiently transmit all kinds of services. GPON will be the perfect solving project in FTTP/FTTH area. However there are so many interfaces, OLTS and ONUS in GPON network. It increases the complexity of network. It's important to provide a stable and effective Network Management System for GPON. So to study and design GPON network management has the important realism meaning. The paper describes the design of GPON EMS framework, the detailed implement processes of MIB parsing module, SNMP communication module and OMCI encode module. It also tests the performances on main functions of SNMP Agent and SNMP Manager. These works in the paper is helpful to the development of GPON network management software.The main contents of this paper are as follows:1. This paper first introduces some popular kind of fiber access techniques and the development of PON. The software architecture of GPON EMS (Element Management System) is designed according to the features of GPON. EMS is based upon SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol),which cooperates with OAM to implement management. The software architecture contains SNMP Manager and SNMP Agent.2. SNMP Agent is embedded in OLT. It controls and manages ONU with OMCI and communicates with SNMP Manager by SNMP. The paper first analyses the functions and framework. After that, it gives the picture of function and working flow. Based on SNMP4j development package, it gives the detailed process how to implement develop SNMP Agent with Java. When the Agent is completed, it gives the process of OMCI encodes and decodes.3. GPON network management terminal (SNMP Manager) is the core of GPON network management system. The paper analyses its functions and designs the function modules. After analyses ASN.1, BER and SNMP, it detailed describes how to implement MIB parsing module, SNMP communication module and gives some codes of them. It also shows the result of test.There are a lot of work has been done about snmp in China.Most of them are completed with open source software such as SNMP++.This paper expounds the process of MIB-parsing module and SNMP communication module.It's the most difficult part in this paper.Based on these two modules to implement GPON network management softwar is the innovation of this paper.Besides,this paper designs and implements the encode and decode of OMCI Frame.These work has the important realism meaning to the system of the network management of GPON.
