With human society entering the information era, image and video as information carrier iswidely applicated. Digital video is superior to Analog video, and it forces the development ofMedia, Video Communication and Digital TV in high speed. The research realizes DigitalAcquisition and Compression since the important meaning of Digital Video and the bottleneckproblem bought by the huge amount of data.Video Acquisition is the basic of Digital Video Acquisition and Compression System. It isthe hardware of system. CMOS sensor OV7660 is Video Acquisition chip. CY7C68013 isCPU control and USB2.0 interface chip. Video data is sent to computer by USB2.0 interfaceunder control of CY7C68013. The data are returned to original image by video processsoftware. The reasonable structure and smart volume of hardware make it convenient to use.The emphasis functions of software in Digital Video Acquisition and Compression Systemare video acquisition, display and compression. Software programs include firmware program,application program on computer communication with USB2.0 and video acquisition andcompression. Firmware program compiled with Keil C controls hardware to communicationwith USB2.0; Application program on communication compiled with Visual C++ 6.0 transfersoriginal data to computer; Application program on video compression realizes compressionboth on Static image and Digital video. Static image compression is reached by compressinggrabbed picture with EZW based on Wavelet Transform and JPEG based on DCT. Digitalvideo compression realization contains two ways. Original video data is compressed withH.263, the improved H.263 and MPEG-2 after it is saved to one file is the first way. All threealgorithms reach satisfied compress ratio with high image quality. The other way is that realtimecompression with H.263, MPEG-2 on the basis of real displaying the acquisited data incomputer. Its real-time performance need to be improved as the result of experiment. Itprovides stable foundation for future research of Real-time Acquisition and CompressionSystem.
