This article analyzed the originally existed data transmission network in Puyang. The network structure, operation, and network problems are analyzed theoretically and technically. Based on the Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH) and Multiservice Transport Platform (MSTP) technology, this article proposed an improvement strategy and plan.Currently, SDH and MSTP are widely used optical transmission technology. They have been used in many type of communications networks. This article summarized the current applications and developments of the optical transmission networks and also the characteristics and functions of SDH as well as MSTP. Combined with the Puyang data transmission network optimization project, we proposed a improved design for the transmission network in Puyang.The original data transmission network of Puyang Mobile had many flaws, such as low capacity, few types of services, unstable hardware and so on. Based on the analysis on the network structure, operation, and network problems of the original network, we studied the Puyang Mobile's transmission network optimization strategy and implementation plan. We proposed a new improved plan.In view of the SDH and MSTP theories, we conducted studies on every aspects of the optimization strategy and design. The study focused on the Clock Synchronization network disposition, the channel and capacity determination, the solution for ZTE corporation's SDH 2.5G S360 hardware flaw, the MSTP based IP network structure, and the impacts to transmission network construction from future 3G network.Finally, the improvement strategy and plan in this study have been used in the Puyang Mobile transmission network optimization project. For the observation of the improved network, the proposed improvement strategy and plan are efficient and constructive.
