Goal Based Software Process Performance Assessment Model

With the rapid development of computer technology, software applications have been spread widely. Their size and cost have been increased as well. So software science introduces the management of software engineering to solve the problem. Software engineering has been created as time past. Developing for a long time, software engineering has become an excellent theory, which has been widely applied in the software development or management.Software metrics is a new field in software engineering. The content of software metrics is to manage the essential of software engineering with the method of measurement. By extracting the properties measurable in software process, continually picking up the data of these properties at certain frequency, and analyzing the data using proper analyzing method, to measurably assess the ability and performance of the process, and to improve the visibility of process and manage software organization and improve process.Process performance assessment is the basis and manner to realize the process control and improvement. Recognizing the status of software process with process performance assessment, to control the project that has become or will become out of control properly, and at the same time, to seek the chance of improvement according to the problems and defects existing in software process.Now, process measurement just stops at the measurement indictor. Most literature documents are limited to idiographic quantitative analysis to certain indictor. Not considering the relation between the whole goal and sub-processes, so, they can' t quantitatively assess the performance of certain sub-process and lack pertinent improvement and perfection precept. With the large-scale development of the software industry,the software process performance assessment is becoming more and more important. Based on the decomposition and analysis of the organizational goals, applying the classical technology of statistical process control (SPC),this paper established the goal-based software process performance assessment model (G-SPPAM). Through analyzing the mapping relation among organizational goals, measurement indictors and sub-processes, the article achieved assessment of each sub process. Finally, the paper gave an application of this model and analyzing it by combining an example.
