This paper elaborates the design concept and analyzes the product characteristics and the deficiency on Optical fiber cable line Automatic Monitoring System (OAMS-2000) through the academic research and project development. The main contents include:Firstly, it introduces the background and research status of OAMS-2000, which shows the vital significance of OAMS in national telecommunication managerial network (TMN). The industrial standard on"Optic cable line Automatic Monitoring Systems engineering Design Standard"(draft) is imported as technical basis and the platform on OAMS-2000 design and development. Meanwhile, the amending and append clauses are also proposed based on the product applicable requirements.Secondly, the main part of OAMS-2000 researched in this paper is Monitor Station (MS) integrated OTDR, Optic Power Meter, Optic Switch and other optical component.MS start testing through many kinds of alert unit and manage alert information ,troubleshooting processing by telecommunication network and database. The OTDR card made in Canadian EXFO Corporation is choosed because it has the rich API function and the dynamirange satisfies the longest fiber optic cable line. Optic Switch in Canadian JDS Corporation is choosed because it has the suitable control mode and the appropriate speed of response. The other optical component has min insertion loss and right control function is choosed. The overall framework of OAMS-2000 explains systemic software including user desktop and the function of alert, testing and management, database, telecommunication network and so on. Furthermore, OAMS-2000 examination and acceptance methods are proposed according to the"Optic cable line Automatic Monitoring Systems engineering Approval Standard"proclaimed by Ministry of Information Industry.Finally, this paper makes the deep research on the product technical deficiency and forecasts the future development of OAMS.
