With the rapid development of communication techniques and modern computers, people have more and more depended on computer network to acquire and exchange information, which makes the demands for communication transmission turn gradually, from the simplex service---voice, to aggregated multimedia services including audio, image, and video, and at the same time, requires higher standard for bandwidth of transmission speed and channel. In 1995, TIA/EIA standard《commercial building telecommunication cabling standard 》was promulgated in USA, which prescribed the criteria of category 3, 4 and 5 . 《Transmission performance specifications for 4-pair 100? category 6 cabling 》specified in ANSI/TIA/EIA-568B.2-1, released in USA On June 7th in 2002, which can support services, such as audio, data, image, and can make multimedia communication implemented, is better to be applied when the transmission speed is above 1Gbit/s. This article introduces the definition and the testing techniques of return loss, which is an important parameter of the digital cable used in wide band. And it also discuses the technical index of return loss and the configuration and production techniques of lan cable. It analyses how the return loss comes into being during processing progress and how to improve it. The author explicitly brings forward the method of improving return loss of lan cable through many tests. In this way, the category 6 used in wide band can be produced eligibly with homemade apparatuses.
