Along with the development of IPv4-based Internet, IPv4 network has emerged its deficiency piece by piece, and these problems are the main hindrance to the development of Internet, only with the construction of the next generation Internet, can we solve above problems effectively, then The next generation Internet Protoeol, also known as IPv6, had been designed after many years of consideration.The research of IPv6 protocol originated from the beginning of 1990s, CERNET started the research and test of next generation Internet since 1998, and according to early experience and basic principle of 6bone, have designed and built up IPv6 test bed CERNET-IPv6, supported by existing infrastructure of CERNET, regard tunnel as the main way in which the backbone connects, having set up nationwide IPv6 testing network. In 2001, CERNET proposed the plan of building next generation Internet-CERNET2.As the core of Internet system structure, an important design target of IPv6 protocol is the compatibility with IPv4. The communication between IPv6 nodes will depend on the infrastructure of existing IPv4 network, IPv6 node, which is distributed over each area must need to communication with the node of already existing IPv4 node too, so the coexistence phase of IPv6 and IPv4 will last quite a long time. Though people has obtained great achievement in the development of Internet, its security and efficiency problem are not being solved at all, and IPv6 testing net is the microcopy of IPv6 campus network in future. So explore technology intergration way in constructs the testing network based on IPV6, and the technology practice on high performance, dependability, management of network will have crucial significance.This paper mainly discusses the deployment of IPv6 testing network with the transition technology of IPv6, and engaged in analysis in performance and application. The main content of this thesis is as follows: Research the main theory, key technology and operation principle of IPv6 protocol in detail, discuss and practise several kinds of transition scheme, under the experiment environment of IPv6 network, and compare, make every effort to obtain the smooth transition from IPv4 to IPv6, combine the characteristic of our school, has proposed the design plan of IPv6 testing network and IPv6 campus network in the future; set up the experimental platform under Linux, take a detailed discussion on the basis of testing network about the deploy way, especially make detailed analysis in network security and router performance, and provide corresponding disposition advise at two respects above, make effort to reach high performance, thus make preparations for the upgrade of campus network.
