Wireless ad hoc network is different from traditional wireless networks. Its self-organizing, and multi-hop routing features lead to many attractive applications in military and civilian operations.Nodes in wireless ad hoc network can be mobile, making the network with dynamic topology. Therefore, ad hoc networks are facing a huge challenge to find effective routing in such dynamic network environment; it is also a great challenge for establishment of the ad hoc network test bed to evaluate ad hoc routing protocol performance.In view of the problems encountered in the development of wireless ad hoc network, this paper studies how to use test bed with physical hardware support to find the real-world properties and evaluate the performance of wireless ad hoc network routing protocol.This paper analyzes the AODV routing protocol. For establishing a proper test bed, we collect materials about the various wireless ad hoc test bed of the current mainstream; analyze their respective characteristics and operating environment. According to the research needs, we use several pc to establish a real-world wireless ad hoc network test bed based on APE test bed developed by the Institute of Computer of Uppsala University in Sweden. This paper analyzes mobility emulation in real-world test bed, and then gives a virtual mobile parameter description based on "virtual mobility" mechanism in APE test bed. On this basis, we successfully evaluate the performance of AODV protocol in virtual mobile environment of our test bed.
