Wireless sensor network (WSN) systems consist of resource-constrained micro sensor nodes that self-organize into a multi-hop wireless network. These tiny nodes cllaborate to accomplish tasks such as environment monitoring, medical care, space exploration, etc. WSN is a new research area and has a wide application future. Military, academia, and many industries are very interested in it.The management of equipment is an important application for wireless sensor network. The equipment is the foundation of military operation and training. It is an important task to manage them in every unit. In order to enhance the efficiency of equipment management and the level of automatization, this thesis designs the systematic methods for the management of equipment in virtue of wireless sensor network, which is significant for the improvement of the military information and military economic benifit. This paper gives an instruction about the architecture and characteristic of wireless sensor network at first. Then, starting with the analysis on the application environment and background of equipment management, the scheme of wireless sensor network architecture for equipment management, network protocol stack, network management protocol, remote network management system, routing protocol is designed. At last a prototype of wireless sensor network application system for equipment management is realized, which comprises equipment management database, user application program, server program and sensor node program It can be used to sense the luminance, temperature, humidity and location of the equipment, so the monitor and management of equipment can be fulfilled. This system offers useful reference to large-scale utilization of wireless sensor networks for equipment management in army, and establishes foundation for future work.
