A wireless sensor network (WSN) is typically a distributed system consisting of resource-constrained micro sensor nodes which combine a sensor, a data processing unit and a communication module together, and self-organize into a multi-hop wireless network. The management system of wireless sensor network aims at providing an integrative management mechanism for the system resource, performance, malfunction and security to make the WSN more efficient and productive. It completes the task of monitoring and managing the WSN in real use and plays an important role in enhancing the performance of WSN. It has become more and more popular in the general public, and enjoys great promise. Taking the situation monitoring as the research background, we design and implement an efficient management system which is of great value both in theory and practice. At first, we give a survey on the research into the management for WSN and propose a network management model based on the appropriate sensor node and software platform. Taking the feature of energy-conserving, reliability and expansibility into consideration, we complete the design the management protocol for the wireless sensor network which includes an Auto-ID generation mechanism, a broadcasting mechanism based tree assembled by the shortest route to the sink node, a mechanism of reliable reply by mutual acknowledgement and a joint design of routing protocol and management protocol. At last, we implement a prototype of the system which is based on the design platform and sensor node, and improve the arithmetic of topology visualization. The results of the experiments and simulations could confirm that the design mechanism of key technologies in the system is able to deal with the corresponding problems in wireless sensor network and meet the requirements of the system.
