Fieldbus Control System is a hotspot in current automation technology field, and it is also called a local area network in automation field. As the most influential fieldbus in the world, PROFIBUS has stepped into a mature technology stage. The standard of PROFIBUS contains a few subsets, including PROFIBUS-DP, PROFIBUS-FMS and PROFIBUS-PA. Till now, the implement of PROFIBUS-DP has taken 80% of the whole PROFIBUS's application, and it stands for the elite of PROFIBUS.There are many applications of PROFIBUS-DP in domestic industrial automation field, but the way of application mostly relays on the abroad companys's communication chip of PROFIBUS-DP and extern microcontroller. Our domestic automation companys rarely concern the design of PROFIBUS-DP chip. So it's hard for us to master the core of PROFIBUS-DP protocol and comprehend PROFIBUS-DP technology.In allusion to this problem, a FPGA-based hardware logical design method for PROFIBUS-DP slave station was proposed and tested. The whole structure of the system and the functions of FPGA were detailed. The design contained PROFIBUS-DP slave station's hardware (includes the circuit design of FPGA and MSC51, hardware design of Physical Laye and Bus Interface), software such as Physical Layer, Data Link Layer (includes setting the address of slave station, parameter evaluating, configuration and diagnosis) and Bus Interface Module. The whole design satisfied the communication requirement of PROFIBUS-DP protocol, and was carried into conformance test which includes the authentication of hardware proformance, the communication requirement of PROFIBUS-DP, functions test.
