Biometric Identification Technology (BIT) is the science that identifies others as the physiological characters. Fingerprint Identification Technology is the most important technology of BIT, and it is a mature technology. As a rapidly developing technology, AFIS is used in many fields inceasingly, such as identity identification and safety inspection system. With the development of micro-electronics technology and the corresponding fingerprint arithmetic technology, it will urge this technology to be used in more and more fields.We combine the combo of AFIS and embedded system in the design, it can let AFIS work faster and more efficiency, and it will let the application of AFIS become faster and wider. Based on the research of AFIS, this paper details the work of "Research of fingerprint identification technology based on embedded system".This paper discusses the study actuality and development direction of the task, and the entry point in the research that we faced. Then it introduces the most important part-the fingerprint arithmetic. It includes the pretreatment of fingerprint image, features extractionand charater matching, and contrasts two ideas of features extraction. We choose one and carry out the fingerprint identification software by using MATLAB, and carry out the development of fingerprint retrieve based on fingerprint symmetry.The embedded fingerprint identification system in this paper includes two parts; one is fingerprint image collection system by using FPS200, another is embedded system by using LPC2214. Means of communication of fingerprint image collection system is USB; it can connect with the computer as a fingerprint image collection system, and do the prefrontal work of embedded system too. With the combine of the high capability,small power consumed,32-bit RISC structure processors- ARM kernel and public sourcecode embedded real-time operating system, we integrative the hardware based on LPC2214,FPS200,FLASH,SRAM,LCD and PC, and then transplant embedded real-time operating system uClinux and fingerprint arithmetic, finally achieve the exploitation of embedded fingerprint identification system application.
