The method of identification is that we judge one person whether owns effective evidences such as photos, passwords, keys, IC cards. This method has been being the most conventional way when it requires identification in our social activities for a long time. Obviously, this method is a way to identify the things one owns but not the characters of him. And, the disadvantages of this method are conspicuously seen: the losing of those effective things always results in refuse of an authentic person, and the forging as well as decoding of those things can easily cause a lot of matter to identification. Accordingly, some measures of recognizing the characters of human's bodies have been searched, which are called identification of organism characters.Fingerprint recognition plays an important role in identification of organism characters. The invariability and solitary of one fingerprint produce warranty of fingerprint as a means for identification and it is possible for it become a fact according to the development of image processing and recognition technique. Automatic fingerprint identification system (AF1S) is a technology based on computer or microcomputer of super capability.This paper is just about the study and design of AFIS. According to the process of design, the system can be divided into three components: (1) the collection of fingerprint;(2) the processing of fingerprint image including pre-processing, feature extraction and matching of fingerprints;(3) the transmission of data. The main jobs of this paper based on the parts discussed above are: (1) build the mode of the whole system;achieve the basic request;(2) construct the electro circuit of the system;(3) improve present program.Firstly, the whole thought of the system is depicted in this paper, and thereafter, the technique details of each mode are also described in turn.
