This article mainly discusses the assessment of the economic value of ancient paintings in museums, including research situation,reasons and importance of assessment,and methods, etc. And takes parts of Lvshun Museum' s paintings as the example.This article is divided into six major parts:Chapter one—explaining of topics, explains and defines the meaning of several keywords (museums,ancient paintings,collections,economic value,assessment) .Chapter two—review of research history. Because ancient painting is part of collections in museums and also belongs to cultural relic,curio,work of art, this article expands the scope of study. It can be seen that the understanding about economic value is gradually deepening. But now there isn' t a method for assessing the economic value of ancient paintings.Chapter three—making an analysis of necessity, feasibility, complexity as well as significance. First, it' s introduced the background of assessment. Second, it' s introduced the necessity of assessment: Compensating the deficiencies of collections grading ; Compensating the deficiencies of piecework ; Solving the Problems about insurance; Providing reference for punishment and compensation; Providing reference for assets investigating ; Providing reference when dealing collections. Third, it' s introduced the significance, there is more significance besides the above several spots: It' s beneficial for the development of collections insurance business and artworks insurance business; It' s beneficial for grading and comparison among museums; It' s beneficial for setting apart paid donation from selling ; It' s beneficial for forming the supervising mechanism; It' s beneficial for reasonable purchasing; It' s beneficial for reorganizing and studying collections; It' s beneficial for regulating cultural relic market. Fourth, it' s introduced the feasibility. The reason which ancient paintings could be assessed lies in: there is price of ancient painting in the history,painting has price when it' s created,replica of ancient paintings has price,collections which bought from auction have price, and counterfeit has price when people don' t know the true situation. Therefore ancient paintings have price no matter before or now. Finally, it' s elaborated the complexity of assessment.Chapter four—the methods of assessment. This article founded three methods: the method of marketing,the method of accounting in the original price, the method of substituting using counterfeit. When using the method of marketing, reference object is auction goods which is closest to the assessed object, and some factors (for example, age,quantity, artist' s fame,semblance,size and form,content and theme,artistic value) will be revised. The method of accounting in the original price can be used when the painting was auction goods before. The method of substituting using counterfeit is only stated as one special instance.Chapter five—assessing for the parts of Lvshun Museum' s paintings. First, it' s introduced the situation of Lvshun Museum and ancient paintings. Then this article assesses some of ancient paintings.Chapter six—conclusion. First it' s raised some tentative plan, mainly about evaluators,principle,matters which need attention, and so on. Second, it' s summarized some shortcoming. Finally, it' s pointed out that the work of assessing ancient paintings is formidable.
