After long times researching and developing,3G,the prominent further generation of mobile communication network has been matured,which announces the coming of commercial utilization in just latest future. One remarkable upgrade from 2G to 3G is the various services to be carreed on whose QoS requirement is differing in a great extent, which gives the process a great challenge. Rational planning of the Radio network can both reduce financial requirement in network deployment, and ease the pressure of following support and optimization. Now, lacking of real operating experience, nearly all the report on 3G is coming from the exsting 2G network, which is defeated in accuracy, and make planning more difficult. While there are some successfully designed 3G planning software in the world, it haven't gotten much attention in the country. In this thesis, theory on network planning is detailed, and the design of the planning software of our team is presented.The thesis is organized as following:It's an outline in the first chapter, which gives a survery of the characteristic of WCDMA network and of WCDMA network planning process,and then promotes the importance of having the most efficient planning tools.In chaper 2, it presents a clear and readable description on propagation modeling. It lists the most useful model in practice, and then gives a deeply discussion on the effect of shadow fading and the way to model it in simulation. In the third chapter, a brief introduction of the most popular traffic modeling technique is presenter,and then deals with how to simulate date service in a static simulation.The most useful simulation result of a link-level simulator for planning is presented in chapter 4, which analyze the generation mechanism for the results, as well as their effect of the system.The main planning algorithm is discussed in chapter 5 and 6, and four algorithm is described here , which are static analyze, static simulation, dynamic simulation and short-term dynamic (STD) simulation. Among them, STD is presented in briefness, and the most work is taken on static simulation.Its theory, approach, some comparison of alternative method is detailed.And chaper 7, a brief conclusion and some perpective on WCDMA planning are offered.This thesis is a summary of over one year researching and developing work of the author, and it surely includes much theory on planning and much guideline on software implementation.
