With the Information System becoming increasingly complex, multiplex and interactive, the traditional function-oriented methods of development cannot fit in with the complexity and inconstant requirements, the result of analysis and design cannot be reused effectively. By comparison, object-oriented modeling technique is flexible, reusable and can reduce the risk of development because it makes the complexity and changeability in control. So the object-oriented technique can improve the development efficiency. The Unified Modeling Language(UML) inosculates the main concepts and technologies of prevalent object-oriented methods and absorbs their production. With its abundant expression and standard process, UML is fit for system modeling in every phase of lifecycle, which is the most dominant modeling language in the software field of the future.The thesis summarizes UML technology, points out modeling process and tool, and shows its advantage in comparison to traditional methods. Aimed at implement of Enterprise Resource Planning for electric enterprise, this thesis analyses and designs Equipment Maintenance Management System of ERP from requirement, analysis, design to realization. System framework is given and some modulars are implemented with JAVA.Based on the project development practice, the application of UML in information system is researched, which will be valuable to develop the complex ERP System.
